Basic Concepts

  • Exposure time: the period during which the sensor accumulates electric charges. It starts when the sensor pixel starts exposure and ends when the battery level is read.
  • Exposure gain: the total amplification coefficient for the output electric charge of the sensor. The exposure gains include the digital gain and analog gain. Analog gain is preferred because it produces low noise.
  • Iris: a mechanical device that changes the central hole size of the lens.
  • Anti-flicker: The screen flickers when the power working frequency of the electric light does not match the sensor frame rate. Anti-flicker is implemented by specifying the exposure time and changing the sensor frame rate.
  • Color temperature: the temperature of the black body is the color temperature of a light source when the radiation of the light source is identical to the radiation of the absolute black body in the visible region. Color temperature is defined based on the absolute black body.
  • White balance: blue or red cast of white objects at different color temperatures in sensors. The white balance algorithm is used to adjust the strength of R, G, and B channels to obtain the actual white color.
